The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), through its Ibadan Operations Office (IBOO), has distributed vital relief materials to households affected by a recent windstorm disaster in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The intervention, which took place on Thursday, July 31st, was in response to the destructive windstorm that swept through several communities in the area, leaving behind a trail of damaged homes, disrupted livelihoods, and displaced families. The relief distribution was aimed at providing immediate humanitarian support to affected residents and facilitating their path to recovery.

The materials, approved by the Director General of NEMA, **Mrs. Zubaida Umar**, included essential food supplies such as rice, spaghetti, beans, vegetable oil, seasoning cubes, and other household necessities. The exercise was conducted in collaboration with the Ogun State Emergency Management Agency (OGSEMA) and the Imeko-Afon Local Government Authority to ensure effective coordination and equitable delivery to verified beneficiaries.

Speaking at the event, the Head of NEMA Ibadan Operations Office, **Mr. Kadiri Olanrewaju**, sympathized with the affected families and reiterated the agency’s steadfast commitment to supporting disaster-hit communities across the country. He also emphasized the importance of disaster preparedness, early warning systems, and community sensitization in minimizing the impact of natural hazards like windstorms.

“Our intervention today is not just about relief distribution,” Mr. Olanrewaju said. “It is about showing solidarity with those affected and reinforcing our commitment to building safer, more resilient communities. We encourage local authorities and residents to remain proactive in taking preventive measures ahead of seasonal hazards.”

Representing the Ogun State Government, **Mr. Soji Durojaye**, Director of OGSEMA, commended NEMA for its swift response and highlighted the importance of continued collaboration between the Federal and State Governments in addressing disaster-related emergencies. He also applauded the synergy between all involved agencies, which he said contributed to the smooth execution of the relief operation.

Also present at the occasion was the Chairman of Imeko-Afon Local Government Area, **Hon. Theophilus Aremu Olorode**, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to NEMA and OGSEMA for the prompt intervention. He described the assistance as “timely and impactful,” and pledged continued partnership with both agencies to enhance disaster response and improve the well-being of his constituents.

“The people of Imeko-Afon will not forget this gesture. Your presence here today brings hope and reassurance to families struggling to rebuild their lives after the storm,” Hon. Olorode remarked.

Beneficiaries of the relief intervention voiced deep appreciation, noting that the support would significantly cushion the harsh effects of the disaster. Many described the assistance as a lifeline, especially for households whose homes and sources of income were severely affected by the storm.

The successful execution of the distribution was made possible through the collaborative efforts of key stakeholders, including:

* **Ogun State Emergency Management Agency (OGSEMA)**
* **Imeko-Afon Local Government Authority**
* **Community leaders and youth volunteers**
* **Local security agencies**

NEMA’s continued engagement in Ogun State forms part of its broader national mandate to provide coordinated and timely disaster relief, while promoting community-level resilience and preparedness.
