On 6th August 2025, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Minna Operations Office (MOO), in collaboration with the NEMA/NYSC Emergency Management Vanguards (EMVs) Community Development Service (CDS) groups in Bosso LGA, carried out a flood sensitization campaign at Maikunkele Market in Niger State.
The exercise was aimed at raising awareness among traders, market women, and the general public on the dangers of flooding, early warning signs, and practical preventive measures to reduce its impact, particularly during the peak of the rainy season.
During the outreach, the team emphasized key flood prevention and safety messages, including:
Proper waste disposal to prevent blockage of waterways
Regular clearing and maintenance of drainage channels
Keeping the environment clean to reduce flood-related and health hazards
The sensitization was conducted through direct engagement with market users, display of placards carrying flood safety tips, and communication in local languages to ensure clear understanding and encourage active community participation.
As the rainy season intensifies, NEMA Minna Operations Office urges all residents to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to safeguard lives and property. The Agency reiterates that Disaster Risk Reduction is a collective responsibility.
