SPEECH BY THE DIRECTOR GENERAL NATIONAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY (NEMA) AT THE
“FLAG OFF CEREMONY OF THE SECOND PHASE OF THE DISTRIBUTION OF RELIEF MATERIALS DONATED BY THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA TO THE INTERNALLY
DISPLACED PERSONS IN  BORNO STATE ON THE 5th JANUARY, 2023.

It is my pleasure to welcome you all to the second phase of the distribution exercise of relief items donated by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Internally Displaced Persons in Borno State and to appreciate the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief (KS Relief) Centre for their numerous humanitarian assistance and support to those affected by Boko Haram insurgency in Borno and Yobe States as well as those of Armed Banditry in Zamfara State. This is the third time Barno State is benefitting from their
support.

2. The activities of Boko Haram insurgents and armed banditry have resulted in large scale displacement of persons and humanitarian crises requiring the interventions from all levels of Governance as well as the International humanitarian actors. The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management And Social Development through NEMA has been supporting the State Governments in providing succor to those affected/ displaced by these attacks in the North East, North West and North Central geo-political zones as well as those affected by other disasters in other parts of the Country.

3, The KS Relief Centre has been very benevolent to the Country. Our partnership with them dates back to 2018. Between 2018 and 2021, the Centre donated relief items (food baskets) to some Internally Displaced persons in Borno, Yobe and Zamfara States. The impacts of these
Interventions have been beneficial to the beneficiaries. This is evident From the positive testimonies given by the affected people. fF o4ahl WK at

4 . Recall that The Centre had donated 16,000 food baskets of relief materials to 16,000 households Bomo State for two (2) cycles of 8,000 household each in different Camps,in December 2022 . Each household is expected to have 59.8 kilograms basket of food made up of 25kg of rice; 25kg of beans; 4kg of Masa vita flour 2kg of tomato paste; litres of ground nut oil; 1kg of salt and 0. 8kg of maggi cubes. The first phase of the intervention was carried out in December 2022 at El-Miskin, Doro, Ashiri, Shuwari camps and Nganzai Town.

This second phase will take place in Muna Kumburi, Gongulon, Madinatu I and Madinatu II camps. The food assistance will go a long way in alleviating the sufferings of those affected and will be handled directly by NEMA in collaboration wth the State Emergency Management Agency.

On behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, | thank and appreciate the King of Saudi Arabia, His Majesty, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammad Bin Salman and the good people of Saudi Arabia for their support to the Country May Allan SWT) reward you all (amin).

6. I therefore flag off the second phase of the distribution of these relief items for use by those affected /displaced by insurgency with the hope that their sufferings will be alliviated
