ASSESSMENT OF FLOOD AND RAINSTORM DISASTER AT SEVENTEEN COMMUNITIES IN IDO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF OYO STATE

A joint assessment team of NEMA Southwest Zonal Office and Officials of Ido LGA , Oyo State conducted an assessment of seventeen (17) communities affected by flood/ rainstorm disaster on 11th October, 2023.

In the course of assessment, it was observed that the cause of flood disaster in that area is as result of overflow of Omi river that pass through those communities. The team was made to understand that the incidence has become a recurrent issues especially when there is torrential rainfall. The communities were seriously affected by the flood , properties were damaged, means of livelihood destroyed at the market, farmland such as fish ponds were washed away,several homes destroyed however no life was lost.

The team led by the Assistant Zonal Coordinator Mr Olanrewaju Kazeem commiserated with the victims, sensitized the victims on Disaster Risk Reduction Strategies And assured them of the Federal government support to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
