Staff of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Yola Operations Office participated in a significant three-day workshop focused on “Camp Closure and Exit Planning,” held at the AUN Hotel in Yola. This essential workshop was organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The workshop aimed to enhance the skills and knowledge of NEMA staff in effectively managing the complex process of camp closure and the transition of camp residents to sustainable solutions. The training covered a wide range of topics, including strategic planning, logistical considerations, and community engagement strategies necessary for successful camp closure and exit planning.
Mr. Giwa Kurutsi Siman, from the Search and Rescue Unit, and Mr. Sadiq Nuhu, from the Human Resources Unit of the NEMA Yola Operations Office, attended the workshop. They were introduced to best practices and methodologies designed to ensure a smooth and efficient transition, minimize disruption to camp residents, and facilitate long-term solutions. The sessions were led by experts from IOM who provided valuable insights and practical tools to address the challenges associated with the closure of emergency camps.
The workshop underscored the importance of comprehensive planning and coordination in managing camp closures. It also highlighted the role of inter-agency collaboration in achieving effective and humane solutions for displaced populations.
