NEMA relevant stakeholders responds to distress call on accident involving a trailer carrying coal

On the 18th May 2024, the search and rescue unit of NEMA Northwest Zonal Office in collaboration with relevant stakeholders including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), police, and KASTLEA, responded to a distress call regarding a ghastly accident involving a lone trailer carrying a full load of coal. The incident occurred at the pedestrian bridge near Sultan Bello Mosque, Ungwan Sarki. The trailer was said to be traveling from Kogi State to Sokoto State.

The driver of the trailer lost control of the vehicle, presumably due to negligence or road conditions, and failed to notice the road division under the pedestrian bridge. Consequently, the trailer collided directly with a bridge pillar, resulting in significant damage to the vehicle and the spillage of its contents onto the road.

Joint efforts by stakeholders were undertaken to assess the situation, provide assistance, and manage the aftermath of the accident. Five individuals were involved in the incident and were successfully rescued alive from the scene.
