he timely intervention of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other stakeholders effectively contained the fire incidents that occurred at the Ladipo Motor Spare Parts Market and the Owode Onirin Steel Market in Lagos State.
The quick response prevented the inferno from spreading further, safeguarding portions of the markets from extensive damage. The fire at the Ladipo Market was reported around 11 PM on Monday night. Upon receiving the alert, NEMA’s Lagos office activated a response team, which was promptly deployed to the scene. A similar rapid response was initiated and deployed for the steel market, resulting in a successful intervention with no lives lost. Unfortunately, significant property damage occurred, with numerous wares and shops affected.
Key stakeholders involved in the response included the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos and Federal Fire Services, the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Air Force Fire Department, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, and the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC). Their collaborative efforts played a crucial role in managing the fire incidents.
