NEMA Kano Participates in Stakeholders Engagement on Emergency Preparedness plan for Tiga Dam

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Kano Territorial Office, participated in a two-day Stakeholders Engagement on the Emergency Preparedness Plan (EPP) for Tiga Dam, held on the 14th and 15th of November 2024. The delegation, led by the Territorial Coordinator, Dr. Nuraddeen Abdullahi, joined other stakeholders in this critical event.

Organized by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, with support from the World Bank-funded Transforming Irrigation Management in Nigeria (TRIMING) Project, the engagement aimed to address potential emergencies related to Tiga Dam and foster collaboration among key Stakeholders. The meeting centered on

1. Reviewing and brainstorming the draft Emergency Preparedness Plan (EPP) for Tiga Dam.

2. Collecting input, feedback, and recommendations from stakeholders.

3. Promoting a collaborative approach to emergency management for Tiga Dam.

4. Strengthening partnerships between federal and regional agencies, local communities, and other relevant organizations.

The engagement concluded on November 15, 2024, with a field visit to Tiga Dam. Participants assessed the current state of the dam’s infrastructure, including ongoing repairs to the embankment, to better understand the challenges and opportunities in emergency preparedness for the dam.

This initiative underscores the importance of proactive planning and collaboration in managing risks associated with critical infrastructure like Tiga Dam.
