NEMA launch fire prevention awareness campaign across the country to reduce fire outbreak risks during the harmattan season

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has launched a fire awareness campaign across the country to reduce fire outbreak risks in the country during the harmattan season.

In pursuit of this objective NEMA south West zonal office has embarked on a sensitization program in the south West .The program focuses on educating the public in high-risk areas, such as markets and densely populated communities, on fire prevention, preparedness, and response strategies. It addresses common fire hazards like improper handling of flammable substances and faulty electrical installations while promoting safety tips and emergency procedures. Emphasizing community involvement, NEMA encourages residents to adopt safe practices and report hazards to foster fire-resilient communities and safeguard lives and property.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) North-West Zone (NWZ), also in collaboration with the Federal Fire Service (FFS) Kaduna Zone, organized a fire sensitization campaign in Zaria and Kaduna metropolis. Themed “Achieving Zero Fire Emergency Through Fire Prevention, Detection, Protection, and Control,” the campaign aimed to educate the public on fire prevention and response measures.

The three-day program began with visits to the Emir of Zazzau’s palace and Sabon Gari Market in Zaria. Hajia Halima Sulaiman, representing the NEMA NWZ Coordinator, highlighted the devastating impacts of fire incidents and emphasized the importance of public awareness. The FFS Kaduna Commandant, Jonah Ayuba, advocated for households and businesses to install fire extinguishers and adopt preventive measures.

The Emir of Zazzau, Amb. Ahmed Bamalli, praised the initiative and requested fire equipment and training for palace officers. The FFS pledged to train palace personnel and deploy officers for this purpose.

The campaign extended to Katabu District and Mararaban Jos, sensitizing tanker drivers and other stakeholders. In Kaduna metropolis, the teams conducted a rally from Kawo Motor Park to Mando Motor Park, focusing on preparedness, prevention, and timely response, especially during the Harmattan season.

The program will conclude with lectures and grassroots engagement involving corps members and local authorities.
