The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has extended its awareness campaigns on flood and waste management to the traders at Muda Lawal Market in Bauchi. The initiative, organized by the NEMA Gombe Operations Office, aims to educate market traders on the importance of proper waste disposal and flood preparedness.

The NEMA Sensitization team was headed by the head of operations from the NEMA Gombe office. The objective was to raise awareness among market men and women about the dangers of improper waste management, which can exacerbate flooding, especially during the rainy season. This is part of NEMA’s broader strategy to mitigate the impacts of natural disasters through community engagement and education.

The session included informative talks on how poor waste management practices can lead to blockages in drainage systems, increasing the risk of floods. It also highlighted preventive measures that traders can adopt to protect their goods and ensure safety within the market environment.

The market chairman received the NEMA delegation and emphasized the importance of the initiative for the market community. The chairman expressed gratitude to NEMA for choosing Muda Lawal Market as a focal point for this important awareness drive and assured full cooperation from the market leadership

This awareness campaign is expected to have a significant impact on the traders’ approach to waste management and flood preparedness. NEMA plans to continue these campaigns across various markets and communities across the country during the rainy season
