NEMA ESTABLISH PLATEAU STATE HUMANITARIAN EMERGENCY OPERATIONAL CENTER(PSHEOC)

On 26th January 2024, NEMA North Central Zonal office attended a emergency coordination meeting in regards to the ongoing crisis in Mangu Local Government Area which started on the 22 to 24 of January, 2024.

Currently, a 24-hour curfew has been imposed within the Local Government Area making assessment unattainable at the moment. The coordination meeting was held alongside NEMA, with the Zonal coordinator present- Mr Eugene Nyelong, SEMA, WHO, UNOCHA, UNICEF security operatives and some front-line ministries of the state. The EOC liaised with the Chairman of the LGA , Red Cross and Civil Military Coordination for a preliminary status report of the conflict.

Accordingly, a report reaching the EOC center confirmed that 120 persons were injured, about 90 dead and over 476 houses were burnt.

Presently, there are twelve existing IDP camps spread across the LGA.

The North Central Zonal Office and the EOC members have concluded arrangements while awaiting calm and lifting up of the curfew to proceed for a full assessment of the areas affected and provide rapid relief to the those in distress
