Dr. Ishaya Isah Chonoko, the Acting Zonal Director of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Northwest Zone, accompanied by the Zonal Coordinator Northwest Zonal Office, undertook a courtesy visit to National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), Kaduna Zonal Office and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Zone B Zonal Command to enhance stakeholder engagement and collaboration. The visit aimed to strengthen partnerships with key agencies involved in emergency response and disaster management.
Visit Highlights:
1) National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), Kaduna Zonal Office:Dr. Chonoko engaged with the Zonal Head Mrs Helen Egwu and her management team on strategies for coordinating responses to oil spill incidents within the Northwest Zone, the meeting further discussed protocols for rapid detection, containment, and clean-up of oil spills to mitigate environmental damage and protect communities and also explored opportunities for joint training exercises and information sharing to improve preparedness and response capabilities.
2) Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Zone B Zonal Command:Dr. Chonoko held discussions with the Assistant Zonal Commandant General
Zonal Commander Zone B , Kaduna ACG ML Haruna of NSCDC Zone B Zonal Command to explore avenues for enhancing security and civil defense measures during emergencies.Addressed the importance of effective coordination between NEMA and NSCDC in disaster response, including deployment of personnel and resources to affected areas.Explored possibilities for joint training programs and capacity-building initiatives to strengthen emergency preparedness and response efforts.
