NEMA South South Emergency Response team on 17th February, 2024 participated in the Nigerian Navy (NNS Pathfinder) mock simulation exercise, conducted at the Navy shipyard in Rivers State.
The exercise painted a scenario where there was a coalition between two boats conveying passengers.
This exercise is to improve inter Agency collaboration, synergy and search and rescue operations in the State.
The Navy Search and Rescue team and other Search and Rescue units from relevant stakeholders were quickly activated for prompt rescue operations in the water.
Two helicopters belonging to Nigeria Navy and Nigerian Airforce were also deployed for airlifting of the rescued passengers to the hospital. NEMA MICU Vehicle was also deployed to the Jetty for evacuation of rescued passengers.
Thursday, 22nd of February 2024 has been selected for the main simulation exercise.
In conclusion, the Commander Cmdr DOC Igbo, in his appreciation thanked all the Search and Rescue Units from various Agencies who participated in the wonderful exercise while encouraging them to put in more efforts towards achieving a hitch free exercise on Thursday 22nd Feb. 2024.
