The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Enugu State Chapter, has continued distributing relief items to households affected by the 2024 flood disaster across various communities and LGAs in Enugu State.
On December 18, while representing the Director General NEMA Mrs Zubaida Umar Acting South-East Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Mrs. Ngozi Echeazu,flagged off the relief distribution at Akama Oghe in Ezeagu LGA. This initiative is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to support affected individuals and help them return to normalcy
Mrs. Echeazu emphasized that similar exercises had been conducted in other Federal Constituencies and Senatorial districts within the state to ensure fair and transparent distribution. She clarified that the items are not a replacement for the victims’ losses but a demonstration of the government’s care for its distressed citizens. She also urged recipients to use the items wisely and avoid building on flood plains or blocking waterways.
Rt. Hon. Sunday Cryacius Umeha, represented by his Chief of Staff, Prince Obinna Ozoejike, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and NEMA for their timely intervention. He reassured the victims of continued support from his office in addressing challenges caused by such disasters.
