National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Uyo Operations Office, in collaboration with the Akwa Ibom State Emergency Management Agency (AKSEMA) and other stakeholders, distributed relief materials to victims of the flood disaster in Ini and Ikono Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Akwa Ibom State. The items, primarily food supplies, were provided to mitigate the effects of the disaster.
The distribution was officially launched by the Acting Head of Operations, NEMA Uyo, Mrs. Mmandu Aisueni, representing the Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar. She conveyed condolences to the affected communities and urged beneficiaries to prioritize safety, referencing the NiHSA Annual Flood Outlook, which identified the region as flood-prone.
Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo, Member of the House of Representatives for the Ini/Ikono Federal Constituency, expressed gratitude to NEMA and the Federal Government for their prompt intervention. He encouraged the beneficiaries to use the relief materials wisely and emphasized the importance of adhering to disaster warnings and maintaining good environmental practices to reduce the impact of natural disasters.
Community representatives, including Mrs. Ime Enang and Mr. Essien Udo, thanked the Federal Government and NEMA for their support. The event was attended by key stakeholders, including AKSEMA, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, local government chairmen, community leaders, and the media.
