Many houses in Shagari and Bodinga Local Government Areas of Sokoto State were affected by flood including public infrastructure. The bridge linking Shagari and Tureta LGAs was completely covered by flood waters and disrupted the normal functioning of the communities around that axis, particularly business and farming activities.
The flood which occured on the 19th August, 2024 displaced thousands of people. This is because the incident destroyed several structures including houses and shops. About 20 communities were affected across the 2 Local Government Areas affected.
The flood also affected farming activities. Large hectares of farmlands are completely submerged and thus many farmers are at risk of losing a good yield.
The assessment was carried out by a joint team of NEMA, SOO, SEMA and members of the affected communities.
