**NEMA, ADSEMA Begin Evacuation as Aliyu Musdafa Camp Closes, Flood Victims Return Home**
–
As part of coordinated recovery efforts following the recent flash floods in Adamawa State, officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) have commenced the official closure of the temporary Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp at Aliyu Musdafa College in Yola.
During a final briefing at the camp on Wednesday, 30th July 2025, the Executive Secretary of ADSEMA, Mrs. Celine La’ori, announced that the closure was in line with the directive of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Governor of Adamawa State. She assured displaced families that arrangements were already in place for their smooth return to their various communities.
To aid their resettlement, Mrs. La’ori revealed that each returning household would receive financial support and essential relief materials jointly provided by the Adamawa State Government, NEMA, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), and the North East Development Commission (NEDC).
Present at the camp to oversee the process was the NEDC Coordinator and the Head of Operations at NEMA’s Yola Operations Office, Mr. Ladan Ayuba. He conveyed the sympathies of the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, to the displaced persons and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to their welfare. Mr. Ayuba assured them that additional relief items would be distributed both within the camp and in their home communities to ease their transition.
The return process commenced immediately, with critical mobility and security support provided by the Nigerian military and security services. Personnel and vehicles from the 153 Base Service Command of the Nigerian Air Force, the 23 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, and the Adamawa State Command of the Nigeria Police Force were mobilized to ensure the safe and orderly return of affected individuals and families.
The closure of the temporary camp marks a significant milestone in the post-disaster recovery phase, demonstrating a multi-agency collaboration to restore normalcy to the lives of flood victims across the state.
