Flood Assessment – Edo INEC Office, Benin

26th May, 2024

Officials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Edo Operations Office conducted an assessment of the flood damage at the Edo office of the National Electoral Commission (INEC) located on the Benin-Auchi road by Aduwawa. The office was flooded on Friday 24th May, 2024 due to heavy rainfall, which destroyed part of the fence at the back of the building and allowed water to enter.

A staff of INEC, Mrs. Grace Mayaki, accompanied NEMA officials on a tour of the building to assess the extent of the damage. The assessment revealed that all offices on the ground floor, including the Account office, ICT office, Hall, and security house, were affected. Movable and immovable items, including office furniture and equipment, as well as parked vehicles, were submerged in water. Unfortunately, voter enrollment machines already configured for the forthcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) were also affected.

The flood has caused significant damage to the office and equipment.
