
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), through its Benin Operations Office, has distributed essential relief materials to victims of recent attacks by unidentified gunmen in eight communities within Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo State.
The intervention, carried out on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, took place at the local government secretariat in Iguobazuwa and was coordinated by NEMA officials. Representing the Head of Benin Operations Office, Mr. Akeem Adekanbi conveyed the condolences of the Director General of NEMA, Hajiya Zubaida Umar, to the affected families and communities. He emphasized the agency’s continued commitment to supporting disaster-affected populations across the country.
Addressing participants at the event, the Acting Chairman of Ovia South-West LGA, Hon. Nosakhare Edobor, thanked NEMA for its timely and compassionate response. He also commended the collaborative efforts of both federal and state authorities and called for the establishment of permanent security outposts, particularly in Madoti, to deter future incursions from neighboring flashpoints.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Stella Ogiagbe, who spoke on behalf of the affected residents, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Federal Government and NEMA for their swift intervention. She described the relief as a lifeline for families grappling with the aftermath of the attacks.
The distribution was witnessed by representatives of local authorities, traditional leaders, and stakeholders from the benefiting communities, ensuring transparency and fairness in the allocation process.
