The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Sokoto Operations Office, has conducted assessment of flood situations in more than ten communities across Wurno and Goronyo Local Government Areas of Sokoto State.
The assessment followed heavy rainfall that submerged several communities, leaving thousands of residents affected and some even displaced.
The rains also devastated farmlands, destroying crops such as onions, rice, millet, sorghum, and pepper. Although no lives were lost, some of the displaced persons are now taking shelter with friends and relatives.
Communities assessed in Goronyo LGA include Kojiyo, Tsohon Garin Doli, Balla, Tuluske, Birjingo, Kwakwazo, Tsohon Garin Kwakwazo, Shinaka, and Mallawa. In Wurno LGA, the affected areas are Marafa, Tunga, Lahodi Gidan Bango, Dimbiso, Chacho, and Magarya.
