The Director General NEMA Zubaida Umar was at the National Assembly today and held interactive meeting with the Disaster and Emergency Preparedness Committee of the House of Representatives.
Chairman of the Committee Hon Joseph Bassey who presided over the meeting said it was a platform created to discuss with NEMA on its activities, challenges and suggestion on the way forward to improve on delivery of the Agency’s mandates.
The Director General NEMA in her remarks, reiterated commitment of the Agency to continuously strive toward efficient disaster management in the country. She emphasized the imperative for State and Local Governments to also replicate same commitment to complement the efforts of the Federal Government and properly step down disaster management to their areas.
Furthermore, she appealed for understanding of members of the Committee to support the Agency towards achieving its target to become more efficient and effective in life saving emergency preparedness and response.
Responding, the Committee through the Chairman, Hon Bassey observed the need for increased funding and equipping of NEMA as the members assured of their supports to the agency.
