The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has approved the deployment of Monitoring and Evaluation teams from NEMA Headquarters for a fact-finding visit to the six Centres for Disaster Risk Reduction and Development Studies (CDRRDS) across Nigeria.
The Centres, located at the following universities, were the focus of the monitoring exercise:
- University of Maiduguri
- University of Port Harcourt
- University of Ibadan
- Federal University of Technology, Minna
- Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria
- University of Nigeria Nsukka
The primary objective of the visit was to assess the achievements, challenges, and infrastructure of the Centres. During the visit, the Monitoring & Evaluation teams conducted interviews and engaged in discussions with the heads of these Centres to gain insights into their progress and operational needs. The evaluation visit were centered around how to enhance the effectiveness of the programme in alignment with global best practices. The teams also explored ways in which NEMA can support the Centres to improve their alignment with the Agency’s strategic objectives. These objectives include promoting research, capacity building, and infrastructure development, all of which are essential to strengthening disaster risk reduction and management in Nigeria.
The visits are part of NEMA’s ongoing efforts to foster collaboration with academic institutions and ensure that the Centres continue to contribute meaningfully to the national disaster management framework.
