The National Emergency Management Agency, Lagos Operation Office on Wednesday 10th September, 2025 conducted an impact assessment of some communities in Alimosho Local Government Area affected by the recent rain fall that fell from Monday to Tuesday, 8-9 September, 2025.
The Assessment Team was led by Mr Afunku Azeez, Assistant Director Relief and Rehabilitation in conjunction with the Vice Chairman, Alimosho Local Government Area, Hon. Francis Adebisi ascertained the impact of the Flood and assessed the immediate needs of the affected people.
Some of the affected areas are Shasha- Bameke; Coker road, Efon Alaye street, Kaka remo street, Abiola Opesanwo street, oguntade, karimu laka, Egbeda – Jimoh Akinremi street and Bamisile; these areas were inundated by flooding after the torrential rainfall. At the time of the assessment, the flood water had receded considerably but there was evidence of the havoc created.
It was discovered that at Efon Alaye Street, the drainage collector has been silted with sand and dumps, causing overflow of water whenever there is rainfall. Also observed were some houses that had been abandoned by the occupants due to frequent displacement as a result of flooding in the area.
In some areas, the flood caused damages to household items such as electrical appliances, home furniture, food stuff, building walls, and some sources of livelihood was not spared.
The NEMA team used the opportunity to sensitize the affected community members on how to take care of their environment and be safety conscious at all times, especially at this period when the frequency and volume of rainfall would be high as predicted by NIMET.
