NEMA Responds to Flood Incident in Kaduna State

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), through its Kaduna Operations Office, has swiftly responded to the devastating flood that affected major communities in Kaduna State following heavy rainfall in the central parts of the state.

The flood, which occurred on Friday after the intense rainfall, submerged several communities and affected no fewer than 162 houses, and displaced some households. The worst-hit areas cut across Kaduna North, Kaduna South, and Igabi Local Government Areas.

Among the affected communities are Kabala Doki, Bachama Road, Kigo Road, Ramat Road, Rafin Guza, Unguwar Dosa, Nasarawa, Mali Road, and other areas.

The flood displaced several residents, damaged properties, and necessitated urgent interventions. Notably, the NEMA rescue team successfully rescued two women and an infant who were trapped during the incident.

In line with its mandate, NEMA promptly mobilized a rescue team led by the Head of Operations, Kaduna Office, Malam Suleiman Mohammed, to the affected communities.

The operation was carried out in collaboration with critical stakeholders that includes the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA), Federal Fire Service, Kaduna State Fire Service, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) community leaders and and local divers.

Together, the teams conducted search and rescue operations, rapid assessments, and initial humanitarian support to ensure the safety of residents and reduce the impact of the disaster.

Speaking during the operation, the Head of NEMA Operations, Kaduna, Malam Suleiman Mohammed, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property. He stressed that NEMA would continue to work with state authorities, community leaders, and partners to mitigate the disaster’s impact and support recovery efforts.
Rapid assessments are ongoing to determine the full extent of the damage caused by the flooding.

Meanwhile, a temporary Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camp has been activated at a designated safe location to shelter those severely affected by the flood and in urgent need of assistance.
