On May 22, 2024, the North Central Zonal Office assessed the impact of a communal clash in Mikang and Langtang North Local Government Areas of Plateau State, following a request from Hon. John Moenwul Dafaan. The clash, which began on March 23, 2024, over a land dispute, escalated, affecting 16 communities and causing widespread damage and displacement.
The conflict resulted in:
– 47 deaths
– 82 injuries
– Displacement of 2,808 people
– Destruction of 122 houses
– Devastation of 200 hectares of farmland
The clash has severely disrupted economic activities, with many residents now in transit camps or host communities. The impact was predominantly in Mikang Local Government Area.
