ASSESSMENT OF MORE COMMUNITIES AFFECTED BY FLOOD IN KWARA STATE

The assessment team from NEMA, Minna Operations Office continued  on-the-spot assessment of areas affected by flood in Kwara State.
The team observed that the Flood Disaster submerged lots of houses across Ilorin East and Asa Local Government Areas.
Communities affected in Edu include Yelwa, Belle and Fanagun, while in Ilorin East the areas affected by the flood include, Sale-koko, Sale-dumo, Sanu-Shehu, Aduralere, Olorunsogo. The settlements along river Asa are seriously affected due to the increase water level of the river from the recent rainfall, with the Harmony Estate bridge facing a serious threat of collapse.
Houses and farmlands are completely submerged in the flood situation, resulting to the displacement of affected persons particularly in Yelwa. The affected persons in the Old Yelwa that is inundated by flood are camped in the re-settelement area known as the New Yelwa.
