NEMA DOWNSCALES EARLY WARNING AND FLOOD PREVENTION STRATIGIES TO THE GRASSROOTS IN EDO STATE

The 2024 Downscaling of Flood Early Warning Strategies for Edo State took place at the State Secretariat, also known as Palm House. The Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, was represented by Dr. Daniel Obot, Director of Disaster Risk Reduction, who delivered the DG’s address. The roles and responsibilities of state and local governments, communities, and relevant MDAs in disaster risk reduction and mitigation strategies were clearly outlined.

In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Public Security and Safety, Mr. Kingsley Uwagbale, commended NEMA’s initiatives on behalf of the Executive Governor and pledged the state government’s commitment to further downscale the strategies to communities across the state. The event was attended by relevant stakeholders.

This forum aimed to enhance community resilience and reduce vulnerability to flood hazards in Edo State through the downscaling of flood early warning strategies.
