NEMA Distributes Relief Items to Households Affected by Boundary Crisis in Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency, Ebonyi State

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed relief items to households affected by the boundary crisis in communities under Abakaliki and Izzi Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State. The intervention was carried out through the NEMA Enugu Operations Office to bring succour to affected persons in Okpuitumo Ndiegu, Amachi Ndiegu, Idda, and Enyiagba communities.

The distribution exercise, held on August 14, 2025, at Okpuitumo Ndiegu village square, was led by the Head of NEMA Enugu Operations Office, Mrs. Ngozi Echeazu.

Flagging off the exercise, Mrs. Echeazu, on behalf of the Federal Government and the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, sympathized with the affected population over their losses. She explained that the relief materials were approved to alleviate their hardship, though not a replacement for what was lost. She also urged community leaders to embrace open dialogue, direct negotiation, and engagement with relevant government agencies as sustainable measures for resolving boundary disputes.

In his remarks, Hon. Chief Emma Uguru, Member representing Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency, commended the Federal Government and NEMA for the humanitarian intervention. He assured the affected households of a transparent and equitable distribution process and called on them to remain peaceful. He also reiterated his commitment to addressing the underlying issues of boundary disputes in the area.
The Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, represented by the Chairman of Abakaliki Local Government, Hon. Stephen Nwoba, also praised the Federal Government and NEMA for supporting citizens in distress.

The exercise was witnessed by traditional rulers, town union leaders, liaison officers from the various communities, security agencies, and members of the press.
