The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Port Harcourt Operations Office, in collaboration with the Rivers State Emergency Management Agency (RIVSEMA), has distributed relief items to persons and communities affected by the 2025 flood disaster in Rivers State.
The items were donated by the Presidential Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation (PCFRR) as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to bring succour and cushion the impact of disasters across the country.
Speaking during the exercise, the Head of Operations, NEMA Port Harcourt, Mr. Eric Ebhodaghe, conveyed the warm regards of the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, to the beneficiaries. He sympathized with the victims over their losses and encouraged communities to play their part in reducing disaster risks by keeping drainages clean and avoiding indiscriminate dumping of refuse into waterways. According to him, “some of the flooding we experience today are human-induced and can be prevented if we adopt the right practices.”
Mr. Ebhodaghe stressed that the relief materials were not meant to replace the losses suffered by the victims but to provide immediate support and ease their hardship. He assured the affected communities of continued government commitment to their welfare.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Monday Bradum expressed gratitude to the Federal Government, NEMA, and the PCFRR for the intervention. He pledged that the communities would adhere to the precautionary tips and disaster prevention measures highlighted by NEMA.
The exercise recorded a huge success as all beneficiaries expressed joy over the intervention, which they described as timely and impactful.
