








The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has intensified efforts to mitigate the impacts of flooding and related hazards predicted for 2025. At a stakeholders’ engagement in Katsina, NEMA Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, announced that the agency has identified disaster risk management measures and developed vulnerability maps to guide federal, state, and local authorities in reducing flood-related losses.
Represented by the Head of NEMA Operations Office in Kaduna, Mallam Suleiman Muhammad, the DG emphasized the role of early warning tools in supporting public and private institutions, NGOs, humanitarian organizations, and communities to better prepare for flood events. These measures are based on the 2025 flood forecast from NIMET and NIHSA, which NEMA has used to develop a comprehensive Climate-Related Risk Management and Preparedness Framework.
Katsina State Deputy Governor, Farouk Lawal Jobe, represented by Alhaji Mannir Aliyu, commended NEMA for its prompt disaster response and emphasized that the state government has been actively engaging with traditional and community leaders to educate residents about flood risks and mitigation strategies.
The Executive Secretary of SEMA Katsina, Hajiya Binta Hussaini, expressed gratitude to the NEMA DG for approving relief materials worth millions of Naira for disaster-affected residents across the state.
