NEMA North West Zonal Office has organized a one day Stakeholders Review Meeting of 2023 Disaster Activities on coordination and synergy among disaster response units and agents in Kaduna.
The meeting is aimed at providing vital opportunities for stakeholders to come together and share project successes and challenges.
The Zonal Coordinator, Abbani Imam Garki said the meeting will serve as a platform to exchange insights , share best practices and forge innovative solutions to mitigate the impact of disasters and enhance our capacity to adapt and recover swiftly.
He said the gathering is to familiarize NEMA with its major key stakeholders to avert wastages, function overlaps, and reduce inter-agency rivalry and also provide the platform to understand each others capacity in terms of personel, equipment while identifying opportunities available to explore respectively.
He then commended the National Metrological Agency (NiMet) for the timely release of 2024 seasonal climate prediction while calling on stakeholders to utilize for early warning and preparedness.
On his part, Mr. Ishaya Chinoko the new Acting Director, NEMA NWZ said the coordination and synergy among disaster response units and agents was important in managing disaster or crisis.
He further stated that stakeholders need to understand the growing importance of effective disaster preparedness and response in safe guarding communities, infrastructure, livelihood and the environment.
Chinoko added “We have witnessed the devastating impact of disasters, from windstorm and floods to fires; highlighting the critical need for coordinated efforts and proactive measures.”
However , Mr Paul Aboi, Director, Department of Fire Service and Public Safety, Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) said that emergency management falls under three categories; the National, State and Local Government.
He added that enlightenment was key to disaster management, especially when planning emergency strategies as natural disasters is inevitable but can be reduce.
Aboi assured that KADSEMA would continue to collaborate with the agency in ensuring safety of lives and properties in the state.
