NEMA GOMBE OPERATIONS OFFICE CONDUCTS FLOOD PREPAREDNESS CAMPAIGN IN FOUR LGAS OF BAUCHI STATE

As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance disaster preparedness and reduce the risks associated with seasonal flooding, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Gombe Operations Office, has carried out a comprehensive flood preparedness campaign across four Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Bauchi State.

The targeted LGAs are Shira, Giade, Jama’are, and Itas Gadau, with Shira LGA serving as the focal point for the campaign.
The preparedness exercise was led by the Head of Operations, Ummuna Ahmed, who underscored the Agency’s commitment to strengthening community resilience through early warning sensitization, stakeholder collaboration, and grassroots engagement. She noted that timely preparedness remains one of the most effective strategies in minimizing the loss of lives and property during disasters.

The team was warmly received by the Chairmen of the four LGAs, who pledged their cooperation and support towards implementing community based disaster risk reduction initiatives.

The campaign brought together a wide range of critical stakeholders, including traditional and community leaders, security agencies such as the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), as well as local government officials from the participating LGAs.

Through interactive sessions, participants were sensitized on flood early warning signals, evacuation planning, community response mechanisms, and the importance of inter-agency coordination.
This intervention forms part of NEMA’s broader mandate to build disaster-resilient communities in line with national and international frameworks on disaster risk reduction.
