The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Sokoto Operations Office, has conducted a flood assessment in parts of Sokoto South Local Government Area following the heavy rainfall experienced in the last week of September 2025.
The assessment, carried out by officers of the Agency, covered Tudun-Wada A and Gagi areas, which were among the worst affected by the incident. Findings from the exercise revealed that several residential buildings, perimeter walls, and rooftops were damaged as a result of the flooding.
While some affected residents have managed to remain in their homes after carrying out temporary repairs, others have sought refuge with relatives within the community.
The assessment further indicated that the impact of the flood was worsened by inadequate drainage systems and the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in existing drains, which obstructed the free flow of water in the affected areas.
NEMA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting state and local authorities in mitigating the impact of the disaster and enhancing community awareness on proper environmental practices to reduce flood risks.
