Another 115 Nigerians arrive from Libya

Another 115 Nigerians that were stranded in Libya arrived Abuja at the weekend following their evacuation by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

They were received on arrival at the Nnamdi Arzikiwe International Airport by the National Emergency Management Agency which had made the necessary arrangement in transporting them to their various destinations. They were 27 females and 88 males made up of artisans and transit passengers trapped by the violent political crisis in Libya.
In the past two weeks, NEMA has continued to receive the returnees from Libya in batches through Abuja by air and Maiduguri by road for those that escaped the crises by entering Niger and Chad republics.
One of the returnees Miss Precious Ehosa narrated her ordeal at the heat of the crisis and said most of the Nigerians like other blacks in the Arab country were saved by the United Nations systems that provided refuge for them. She said some of them were unable to access the earlier evacuation carried out by NEMA due to the intense armed struggles and fear that had covered Tripoli at the time.
Miss Ehosa and the other returnees thanked the federal government and the United Nations for the assistance in facilitating their safe return back to the country.
In February 2011, NEMA evacuated over 5, 000 stranded Nigerians from Egypt the Libya following political crises in the two countries and Tunisia.
