
As at 6:48 pm while the Search and Rescue efforts was still ongoing, Deputy Governor Alhaji Idris Muhammad Gobir visited the scene of the incident with other state government functionaries. He commiserated with families of the affected persons.
While referring to his call to the DG, NEMA, the deputy governor recognised the presence and efforts of NEMA and NIWA in the operation.
The statistic of the incident remains the same for now:
1. Over 50 perssengers were on transit to Goronyo Market in the boat and it capsized on Sunday 17th August 2025.
2. The people attributed the cause of the mishap to wind but others including NIWA confirm it is overloading.
3. 25 perssengers were rescued alive while about 25 are still missing.
4. 7 motorcycles were retrieved from the water
5. No corpse (dead body) has been found yet
At 7pm today, Search and Rescue operation declared closed to resume tomorrow 0700 hours, being the second day grace given by the dam management for search and rescue after which the dam will open to release water inorder to avoid the dam’s collapse.
Stakeholders in the Operation are NEMA, NIWA, SEMA, Goronyo Local Government officials, Community leaders (sarkin Ruwa of Kojiyo and Goronyo), as well as local divers.
