
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Jos Operations Office, has carried out an on-the-spot assessment of the windstorm and flood disaster that ravaged communities in Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The affected villages include Shimankar, Kalong, Anguwan Dadi, Unguwan Yargam, Wali, Gisa, and Unguwan Zam. The assessment revealed that about 50 houses were destroyed while several hectares of rice farms were washed away by floodwaters.
Receiving the team at his palace, the Village Head of Shemankkat, HRH Miskoom Maurice M. Danjuma, explained that the incident occurred on Sunday, 3rd August 2025. The joint assessment was conducted by NEMA officials led by Mrs. Judith Bai, Chief Relief and Rehabilitation Officer, in collaboration with officials from the Shendam Local Government and the Local Government Emergency Management Committee (LEMC).
Speaking during the exercise, the Secretary of the Local Government, Hon. Chris Nettiem, who represented the Chairman, Hon. Kemi Nicholas Nshe, commended NEMA for its prompt response to the disaster and assured of the council’s continued partnership in addressing the plight of the affected communities.
