Plateau State Governor, Mr Mutfwang visits NEMA

The Governor of Plateau State Mr Caleb Mutfwang was at the office of the Director General National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Abuja where he appreciated the Agency for recent relief intervention delivered to persons affected by recent communal conflicts in some parts of the state.

Governor Mutfwang and his team who were received by the DG NEMA Mustapha Habib Ahmed, however requested for additional relief supports for displaced persons affected by recent attacks in the State.
He said “We know that Plateau state has been in the news of late, we are not happy about it but we know that’s the reality.
“We have had a lot of incidences of insurgency in the last two to three months and it has assumed the dimensions of a national disaster.
“As a result of the insurgency, we have a lot of internally displaced people who are today in IDP camps and we have a lot of unsettled communities hence the incidence of human suffering also increases.
Mutfwang said, “Government is doing a lot to address these issues. The new GOC, third division, who also oversees the special taskforce of the army resumed duty last week Saturday and moved his operational base to Mangu which is a clear departure from the past.
“As I’m speaking, aside from dealing with the issue of insurgency and stopping the infiltration into Mangu, there are also a lot community relations and dialogue going on among community leaders to forestall future occurrence, and assure people that they can live together in harmony.
“But first of all we have to secure the areas that are under threat and we are doing that with every resource at our disposal and by the grace of God I’m confident that not before long, these issues will be a thing of the past.”

Responding, the Director general NEMA Mustapha Habib Ahmed appreciated Governor Mutfwang for the visit and assured the unwavering commitment of NEMA to provide humanitarian supports to distressed citizens, including the displaced persons in Plateau State. He disclosed the Federal Government has approved a special livelihood emergency intervention that would be distributed soon across the states to persons affected by the 2022 flood.

The DG NEMA urged the Plateau State Governor to support the State Emergency Management Agency to be operationally functional with proper staffing, equipping and appropriately funded.

He appreciated the Governor Mutfwang for approving allocation of office and warehouse for the North Central Zonal office of NEMA in Plateau State.
