
In continuation of flood sensitization activities, NEMA Abuja operations office led by the Head, Pharm Zakari Abubakar in collaboration with FCT Directorate of National Orientation Agency (NOA) convened a Town Hall meeting to engage residents of FCT and critical stakeholders on the impending flood disaster 2025.
In his remarks, Mr Abubakar emphasized the need for all to get prepared for the imminent flood in the Territory. He encouraged residents especially those living around riverine areas of Gwagwalada, Abaji and Kwali to clear their drainages, avoid indiscriminate refuse dumping and as a matter of urgency commence relocation to higher grounds. While delivering lecture on “Disaster Preparedness”, the Head, AOO highlighted communities within the High Flood Risk Areas and measures to be taken to build preparedness capacity of the residents. Critical role of LEMC in complementing local efforts in the six Area Councils was also emphasized.
The session featured lectures from NOA, and other stakeholders; expressing their readiness to collaborate with NEMA in ensuring swift response to flooding and other disasters in the FCT.
In attendance were traditional leaders, Religious leaders, Heads of schools, NPF, NSCDC, Civil Society Organizations and LEMC.
The meeting was a huge success as attendees expressed fulfillment and commitment to cascade the message to the grassroots.
