NEMA Commences Door-Door Distribution of Emergency Relief to IDP

The National Emergency Management Agency has commenced door-to-door distribution of 30,000 metric tonnes of emergency food intervention with Bakassi IDPs Camp in Maiduguri Borno state.

The Director General of NEMA, Engr. Mustapha Maihaja said the agency under his watch is determined to bring sanity to humanitarian intervention by adopting door to door distribution in order to serve the affected persons in dignity without subjecting them to avoidable stress of having to stand in long queues under the sun or rain.

He made the statement during a meeting held with UNOCHA officials in Maiduguri, Borno state.

He said the relief distribution, which was going to be a quarterly, would entail the distribution of assorted grains to IDPs in the camps and those in host communities in Borno, Yobe Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe and Bauch states.

The DG who sought the assistance of UN humanitarian organizations said “ we will like to share with you what we have in this project, and where we want humanitarian actors here in the North east to collaborate with us, so that this program would be a success”.

Some of the beneficiaries at Bakassi IDP camp who were interviewed expressed their happiness and thanked the federal Government for bring sufficient foods to their doorsteps and appealed for continuation.
