ASSESSMENT OF FLOOD DISASTER AT OBUDU AND AMAUVURU COMMUNITIES BOTH IN ABA SOUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF ABIA STATE

A joint assessment team from NEMA Owerri Operations Office, Abia SEMA and NGO were at Aba South LGA of Abia State to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the communities affected by flood on 13th April, 2023.

The two communities of Obudu and Amauvuru were seriously affected by the flash flood that occurred on the 8th of April 2023 which the Abia State government called “Black Easter Eve as several homes were submerged in water” and luckily, no life was lost.

The team lead, Mr Quintus Oramalu commiserated with the victims and assured them of the Federal government continued support to alleviate the sufferings of the people. He also beckoned on the Abia State government to expedite actions to complete the road construction in the area as it was obvious the flood was as a result of shabby construction activities.
