The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has paid tribute to humanitarian workers across the globe in commemoration of this year’s World Humanitarian Day, with special recognition for NEMA’s dedicated staff and volunteers who continue to risk their lives in service to humanity.
In her goodwill message, Mrs. Umar described humanitarian workers as “brave individuals who risk their lives to provide critical assistance to vulnerable populations affected by conflicts, natural disasters, and crises.”
She noted that the occasion is also a moment to remember those who lost their lives or suffered injuries in the line of duty while rendering selfless service to humanity.
Reaffirming NEMA’s commitment to protecting and assisting disaster-affected communities, the DG emphasized that safety, protection, and dignity remain central to the agency’s mission.
“As always, we call on all stakeholders and Nigerians to #ActForHumanity in all situations,” she said.
World Humanitarian Day observed every August 19, honors aid workers and recognizes the challenges they face in the line of duty. This year’s commemoration comes at a time when Nigeria, like many other nations, continues to grapple with emergencies ranging from floods and conflicts to humanitarian crises.
