The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has concluded activities marking the 2025 Customer Service Week with an emergency evacuation simulation drill and a colourful cultural day celebration, both aimed at reinforcing workplace safety awareness and celebrating unity in diversity among staff.
The closing events, held at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja and simultaneously across its zonal and operational offices nationwide, brought together directors, heads of units, staff, and response teams in a display of teamwork, discipline, and cultural harmony.
During the evacuation exercise at the headquarters, the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, commended staff for their prompt response and orderly participation, describing the drill as a crucial component of the Agency’s internal preparedness strategy.
The exercise simulated a real-time emergency scenario requiring staff to evacuate their offices swiftly and assemble at a designated muster point.
In her remarks, Mrs. Zubaida Umar emphasized that the drill’s objective was to assess readiness and reinforce a culture of safety consciousness among staff. She urged employees to remain vigilant, know their exit routes and emergency contacts, and promptly report hazards within the workplace.
Following the evacuation drill, the atmosphere turned festive as staff participated in a Cultural Day showcasing the richness of Nigeria’s ethnic diversity through traditional attire, food, and music. The event highlighted the Agency’s commitment to inclusiveness, teamwork, and mutual respect among its workforce.
On the cultural celebration, Mrs. Zubaida Umar lauded staff for their creativity and participation, describing the event as a reflection of “unity in diversity and the spirit of one NEMA family working together for the common good of humanity.” The occasion also featured recognition of some deserving staff.
The 2025 Customer Service Week, themed “Mission: Possible,” featured a stakeholders engagement on quality assurances and compliance in humanitarian services. It served as a reminder of NEMA’s commitment to service excellence, innovation, and professionalism in disaster management.
With the successful conclusion of the weeklong commemoration, NEMA reaffirmed its dedication to promoting a safer work environment and fostering a culture of service that exemplifies compassion, preparedness, and resilience.
