NEMA Holds Awareness Campaign on Tanker Fires and Fire Outbreaks

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Enugu Operations Office, has organized a public awareness campaign in Emene, Enugu State, to address the growing incidents of tanker fire accidents and fire outbreaks in the region.

Held on June 13, 2025, at Promise Land Emene, the event brought together key stakeholders, including the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC), Federal Fire Service, FRSC, NSCDC, Nigerian Red Cross (Enugu Branch), Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD), NYSC Emergency Management Vanguards (EMV), and community members from Eke Obinagu.

Representing the NEMA Director-General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, the Head of Enugu Operations Office, Mrs. Ngozi Echeazu, emphasized the importance of proactive disaster risk reduction and inter-agency collaboration in preventing loss of life. She urged citizens to prioritize safety during emergencies, avoid scooping spilled fuel, and refrain from taking videos at accident scenes.

She highlighted key preventive measures such as regular tanker maintenance, improved driver training, road repairs, and strict adherence to safety protocols.

The event featured impactful demonstrations and presentations by FRSC on accident prevention, the Nigerian Red Cross on basic life support, and the Federal Fire Service on fire prevention and firefighting techniques.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks from representatives of IPMAN and PTD.
