
The NEMA Uyo Operations Office today attended the 2025 World Humanitarian Day Celebration with the theme ’Strengthening Global Solidarity and Empowering Local communities’, organized by the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Ibesikpo Asutan Division. The event held at the Ibesikpo Asutan council hall.
In a keynote address delivered by Mr. Bassey Ibokette, he spoke on disaster management and its impact on the community. He elucidated some of the roles and responsibilities of both government, communities and individuals as well as shared ideas on ways that both parties could assist in improving preparedness and response to disasters.
Awards were then presented to various deserving individuals recognizing them for their exemplary humanitarian efforts and community service. The NEMA Uyo Head of Operations, Mrs. Mmandu Aisueni was one of the awardees. In her acceptance speech, she appreciated the NEMA DG, Mrs. Zubaida Umar and management team, the South South Zonal Director, Dr. Godwin Tepikor as well as all staff members of the NEMA Uyo Operations Office for their unwavering support and cooperation. She also used the opportunity to deliver a goodwill message on behalf of NEMA.
In his address as the Special Guest of Honour, the Executive Chairman of Ibesikpo Asutan LGA, Rt. Hon. Edidiong Inyang, ably represented by his Vice, Obonganwan Goodness Emmanuel Obot appreciated the Red Cross of Ibesikpo Asutan Division for their work and sacrifice and pledged the continuous support of the Local Government at all times.
A vote of thanks was given by Pst. Mfon Ben the Divisional Secretary for the Red Cross.
The event concluded with the taking of group photographs.
