The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Port Harcourt Operations Office, has distributed relief materials to victims of the recent windstorm disaster in two communities in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State as part of the Federal Government’s humanitarian support to affected households.
The intervention followed the devastating windstorm that impacted the communities, leaving several households in need of emergency assistance.
On arrival, the NEMA team was received by the traditional ruler, HRH Chief Gbaranbiri Seidisegha, and members of his council, who commended the Agency for its prompt response and concern for the welfare of the affected communities despite the difficult terrain.
The relief distribution was conducted in an orderly, transparent and peaceful manner, with verified affected households receiving relief materials to meet their immediate needs and ease the hardship caused by the disaster.
Speaking on behalf of the affected communities, HRH Chief Gbaranbiri Seidisegha expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, for the timely humanitarian intervention. He noted that the support would provide much-needed relief to families whose homes and livelihoods were affected by the windstorm.
The successful distribution underscores NEMA’s commitment to providing timely humanitarian assistance to disaster-affected communities and supporting their recovery through coordinated emergency interventions.
