
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Abuja Operations Office (AOO), on Tuesday 16th September, 2025, coordinated the distribution of relief materials to persons affected by recent flooding in Yaba community of Abaji Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The intervention followed the approval of relief items by the Federal Government to provide succor to households whose lives and livelihoods were disrupted by the disaster.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of the FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), represented by his Special Assistant, Mrs. Uzoechi Ada, commended NEMA for the timely intervention. She praised the leadership of the Agency for sustaining collaboration with FEMA to strengthen disaster management mechanisms within the territory. Mrs. Ada further reaffirmed FEMA’s commitment to continuous partnership with critical stakeholders to ensure seamless emergency response operations across FCT communities.
Also addressing the gathering, the traditional ruler of Yaba community, the Esu of Yaba, HRH Alhaji Aliyu Yakubu, expressed gratitude to the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, and the Federal Government for the gesture. He noted that the relief support had rekindled hope among the victims.
Some beneficiaries, including Baba Musa and Mrs. Justina Audu, could not hide their joy, stressing that the items would go a long way in easing the hardships caused by the flood.
The exercise, which was orderly and well-coordinated, was supported by security agencies who were on ground to maintain peace throughout the distribution.
