NEMA Develops a National Disaster Risk Reduction Strategic Action Plan in Collaboration with UNDP to Enhance Disaster Resilience in Nigeria

NEMA is developing a National Disaster Risk Reduction Strategic Action Plan in collaboration with UNDP to enhance disaster resilience in Nigeria. The plan, prompted by an assessment of Sahel countries, aims to align with the Sendai Framework and address escalating disasters, including climate-related hazards. NEMA’s partnership with UNDP’s Sahel Resilience Project involves various international organizations and is expected to bolster Nigeria’s and the Sahel Region’s overall resilience. The initiative is crucial amid the vulnerability of Sahel countries to economic fragility, environmental degradation, extreme weather, and security threats. The plan emphasizes a comprehensive approach to disaster risk management, covering preparedness, mitigation, risk reduction, and adaptation. Stakeholders from diverse organizations are actively contributing to the development of this strategic document during a workshop held on November 15, 2024.
