NEMA SUPPORTS THE REHABILITATION OF 3788 PERSONS IN CROSS RIVER STATE

 In an effort to ensure the rehabilitation and resettlement of 3788 persons in Agwagune community of Biase Local Government Area of Cross River state, affected by flood and landslide for several years, The National Emergency Management Agency has presented building materials to Cross Rivers State Government to support the reconstruction of residential and public buildings in the community.Handing over the items in the community, the Director General of NEMA Muhammad Sani Sidi who was represented by the Director Relief and Rehabilitation Mr. Eugene Eze said the rehabilitation and resettlement of Agwagune community would bring to an end the nightmare of annual floods, landslide and resulting into lost of means of livelihood and displacement from their homes as the rehabilitation would ensure that building are safe and livable, making the community more resilient.

In his remarks, the Executive Director, Cross River State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Vincent Aquah said Agwagune Community used to be a large community and has lost a large portion of its habitable land mass to annual flooding and landslide. He commended the Director General of NEMA for actualizing the relocation of 964 households, saying that over the years there have been efforts to ensure people were relocated to new land.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Cross River State Government, the Secretary to the State Government Dr. Tom Ogar told the community that government was very worried about the particular situations and was doing everything possible to mitigate the situations. He appreciated the kind gesture of the Federal Government through the NEMA and assured that the items would be judiciously utilized to the benefit of all the community.

Also speaking, His Royal Highness Onun Linus Inyang of Agwagune community thanked both the state and federal government agencies that have assisted the community and made their dream come true.

The items presented include Cement , Roofing sheets, Ceiling board, Woods and Zinc nails.
