NEMA HOLDS STAKEHOLDERS MEETING ON. COORDINATION AND AFTER ACTION REVIEW ACTIVITIES IN DISASTER MANAGEMENT

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) North Central Zonal office Jos, today held a One-Day stakeholders meeting on Coordination and after- acton review activities in disaster management for the North Central Zone.

Declaring the meeting open, the North Central Zonal Coordinator mr. Eugene Nyelong said disaster, whether natural or man-made can strike at any moment leaving devastation and chaos, however through proactive planning, Coordination and collaboration their impacts can be minimize and save lives and properties.

The Coordinator added further that the workshop would serve as a platform for the stakeholders to come together, share knowledge and experience and strengthen collective capacity to manage disaster collectively. He stressed that it was an opportunity for the stakeholders to review past operations and and identify gaps for the 2023 in disaster management.

Mr. Eugene noted further that effective Coordination was the cornerstone for a successful disaster management and that by working together, we can ensure a coordinated and efficient response, maximize the use of available resources and duplications of efforts.

He urged all the participants to actively participate, share insight and contribute to make a difference and ensure our country Nigeria is better prepared to face any emergency that comes it’s way.

The Coordinator concluded by thanking the participants for their dedication and commitment to disaster management and urged them to make the workshop a stepping stone towards a safer and more resilient future in disaster management.

Some of the papers presented at the workshop included: Importance of Coordination in disaster management by Nurudeen Musa, Assistant Chief Search and Rescue Officer and NEMA Activities review for 2023 and way forward for 2024 by Mr. Eugene Nyelong, the Zonal Coordinator.

All the major stakeholders of the agency presented an after-action review activities of the 2023 and the challenges for 2024.

The workshop which took place at Community and Social Development Agency, opposite West woodwood Park School, Rayfiel, Jos Plateau State had participants from the Negeria Air Force, the Red Cross, Federal Road Safety Commission, Civil Defenses among others.

The event came to an end with the closing remarks by Hajiya Bintu Wanna, Assistant Director of Finance and Account.
