
In a bid to reinforce inter agency collaboration and enhance the effectiveness of emergency response operations in the North East, the Zonal Director of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), North East Zone, Mr. Sulaiman Yakubu today paid a courtesy and familiarization visit to two key military formations in Yola.
The visit included engagements with the Commander of the 153 Base Service Group (BSG) of the Nigerian Air Force, Group Capt. M.M. Muazu, and the Commander of the 23 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General A.O. Agwu. Mr. Yakubu was accompanied by the Head of Operations, NEMA Yola Operations Office, Mr. Ladan Ayuba.
The visit aligns with the recent warning alert issued by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) regarding potential flood disasters in the state. As such, enhancing joint preparedness efforts is seen as a critical priority.
During the visit, Mr. Yakubu expressed appreciation for the continued support and active participation of the military in national disaster management efforts. He commended the leadership and personnel of both formations for their unwavering commitment and professionalism in supporting humanitarian operations.
He further emphasized that “inter agency cooperation remains a cornerstone of effective disaster management, especially as we prepare for anticipated seasonal hazards such as floods, which pose significant risks to lives and property across the region.”
In response, both military commanders reaffirmed their readiness to collaborate closely with NEMA, pledging support in areas of logistics, rapid response, and joint training exercises to build local capacity for disaster resilience
The visit reinforces NEMA’s proactive approach to fostering institutional partnerships that can deliver timely and efficient disaster response for the safety and well-being of communities in the North East zone.
